NAFTA - Fifteen Years Later. Experiences and Future
Article from: TDM 3 (2009), in Editorial
Introduction
We're very pleased to be able to publish this transcript of the First Debate on NAFTA, held in Mexico City, fifteen years after this FTA entered into force. The event, under the title of "Primer Debate TLCAN. Quince Años Después. Experiencias y Futuro", took place at the Universidad Iberoamericana, Santa Fe Campus on February 17th 2009.
The transcript was prepared by Professor Ignacio Gomez-Palacio and two other moderators, Messrs. Eduardo Siqueiros Twomey and Alejandro Faya Rodríguez. This was a ground-breaking event and we hope the issues raised at the debate will be discussed further on OGEMID, especially:
- Does "Buy America Provision" and policy followed by
the US Government comply with
NAFTA? (Panel 1, question 2).
This matter was addressed by Andrea Bjorklund and Todd Weiler.
- Has NAFTA Parties influence, due to opinions, recommendations
and interpretations, been
healthy or detrimental? (Panel 1, question 5).
- What is your opinion on the state of necessity and force majeure as emergency exceptions in cases against Argentina? (Panel 3, question 3).
We welcome your views.
