Xuechan Ma
Profile
Xuechan Ma has been a staff member of the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands since September 2015 as a PhD candidate. She studied law at Peking University in China where she obtained her bachelor and master degrees. She also holds one training certificate from Hague Academy of International Law (2016 session) and one training diploma with a Magna Cum Laude award from Yeosu Academy of the Law of the Sea (2016 session).
Her PhD project deals with the legal settlement of the Spratly Islands dispute among multiple State parties. She authored several publications on this topic and appeared as a speaker in the Edinburgh Postgraduate Law Conference in January 2016.
Xuechan has passed the Chinese Bar Examination and has trained with several leading international law firms such as DLA Piper, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, and Dacheng & Dentons.
Her main research interest includes public international law, the law of the sea and dispute settlement regimes.
