COURTNEY HIKAWA is an associate at Sidley Austin LLP in the International Trade and Arbitration group in the Washington, D.C. office. Her practice focuses on investment treaty arbitrations before the International Centre for Settlement of Disputes (ICSID).
In addition, Courtney advises governments, international organizations, and private clients on various issues of international law and policy. She also maintains an active pro bono practice, including through Sidley's Africa-Asia Agricultural Enterprise Pro Bono Program, which aims to support smaller and medium sized agriculture-related enterprises and development non-governmental organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa and the developing countries in Asia.
Courtney also has experience from a previous practice analyzing and negotiating finance transactions involving companies in Latin America. She has advised clients on and drafted credit agreements and collateral documents.
Courtney earned her law degree at Northwestern University School of Law. She earned her M.A. in Linguistics at University of Minnesota and her B.A. at Oberlin College. She speaks French, Spanish, Italian, and Japanese.
