Thomas Pfeiffer is Vice-Rector of Heidelberg University and Director of this University's Institute for Foreign and Private International Law. He served as Visiting Professor at Hong Kong City University and the Georgetown Law Center, as Professor of Law at Bielefeld University (1994-2002) and as Judge at the Hamm Court of Appeal (1996-2002). He was involved as an arbitrator, conciliator or expert for German, European and International Law in arbitration or conciliation proceedings in Germany, Singapore, Sweden and the US, and as an expert for German law in proceedings before the courts of Australia, Canada, France, Japan and the US.
He is Member of the advisory board of the Cheung Kong Centre for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution, Beijing; of the Joint Network on European Contract Law, mandated by the EU commission with preparatory works for the Common Frame of Reference for European Contract Law; of 'Deutscher Rat für Internationales Privatrecht' (German Council on Conflict of Laws, advisory committee for the German Ministry of Justice on conflict of laws).
He was appointed official expert for the select committee on legal affairs (Rechtsausschuss des Deutschen Bundestages) to advise on several legislative bills and for the German government to advise on various European Directives.
