Introduction
In recent years, the world has witnessed an intense debate on the viability of arbitration for investor-state disputes and various efforts towards the development and refinement of other alternative means of dispute resolution. This article looks at the recent trends and provides an assessment of their prospect. Along the lines, it also briefly looks at Islamic law to understand how it fares in respect of dispute resolution in the modern context. Section II will appraise the recent trends in the Western world towards alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Section III will highlight the Islamic notion of ADR and its compatibility with the Western trend towards ADR. Section IV will provide some concluding remarks.
